verse 34, “Where have you laid him?” he asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied.
Verse 35, Jesus wept.
During this time Christ was already in His friend house and the pain of the loss was unbearable among his family and the town as they have all come to the house to comfort or possible inquire of what was going on. And here comes Christ also with His disciples and been a loving Lord and friend also began to feel the extraordinary uneasiness because of all the sadness that was prevailing in the house.
And even though He could go straight and perform a miracle and detached himself from any emotional feeling. He did not do that, but equally went through all the process of pain that comes with losing a love one. And that is what makes Christ unique because He thoroughly identify with all the pain His friends and love ones are going through even those who don’t believe in Him. And because of this nature of Christ He is always in a better position to understand every person who have placed his or her trust in Him and also is able to offer a better remedy for the believer.
As identify above, after inquiring of where Lazarus have been laid and the appropriate response has been provided to Him. A response that truly indicates that Lazarus is dead and is not a lie. The one who has trusted in Him and is equally His beloved friend is dead. Christ could no more hold His emotion back but as clearly indicated in the verse 35. That Christ wept in that moment as He finally came to terms His friend is dead. He could not hold back anymore because He truly loved Lazarus and cared so much for Him and as wept to see His friend dead in such a manner and how helpless everyone in the house was feeling as His friend has entered the Land of no return.
The cry of Jesus does not only express how much He loved Lazarus but most important how much compassion He equally had for him and his family. Because He could have been coldhearted and just walk away or even laugh about it or also become an onlooker. But that was not the case of Christ, but He showed loved wrapped in extraordinary compassion and as such was not willing to bypass the process of grieving but was ready to also grieve for His friend and go through all the pain associated with loosing someone you love and care.
In the same way, regardless of what you might be facing now, whether is loss, hopelessness and helplessness and feel that you are in a dark place. And you feel alone, dejected and feel is over, it is not over Christ feels every inch of your pain and identifies with every pain you might be experiencing just as He demonstrated here with Lazarus and the family and friends.
The call is just put and trust in Him that you are not alone. The Lord of creation is just there with you grieving and crying relentless with you to comfort you and prove that He is truly the only one that cares.
